The Palm Deira

The Palm Deira development was announced in October 2004. When finished, it will be the largest man-made island in the world which houses more than one million people. Although the completion date has not been announced, but scheduled for completion by 2015. The island is 8 times larger than the Palm Jumeirah, and 5 times larger than the Palm Jebel Ali. Actually, this design is an island width of 14 km (8.7 miles) times 8.5 km (5.3 miles) with 41 branches. Because of substantial changes in the depth of the Persian Gulf, the island was redesigned in May 2007. This project later became the island area of 12.5 km (7.76 miles) times 7.5 km (4.66 miles) with 18 major branches.

In early October 2007, 20% reclamation of the island is complete, with the number of 200 million cubic meters (7 billion cubic feet) of sand that has igunakan. Since the island is bigger, this development is divided into several phases. The first is the creation of Deira Island. Part of the Palm will be located along the coast of Deira between the entrance of Dubai Creek and Al Hamriya Port. Deira Island will act as an "entrance Palm Deira" and helps balance the Deira area.
