Dubai Waterfront (now known as Waterfront) is expected to become the largest waterfront and largest man-made development in the world. The project is a conglomeration of canals and artificial islands; will occupy the last remaining Persian Gulf coastline of Dubai, the most populous emirate of United Arab Emirates. Will include a variety of zones with mixed use including commercial, residential, resort, and other needs. The vision of this project is "to create a world-class destination for residents, visitors and businesses in the fastest growing cities in the world".
Dubai Waterfront Company, the project is open to foreign investment with real estate developers him, Nakheel, which holds 51% stake.
Waterfront is being developed by Nakheel, one of the real estate developers in the world's largest private. These artificial islands, shaped crescent, will form a barrier around The Palm, Jebel Ali, one of the three Palm Islands, the largest artificial islands (shaped like palm trees) in the world also being constructed by Nakheel. The project also includes a 75 kilometer Arabian Canal that will run from the coast into the desert and a major port.
Waterfront will add more than 70 kilometers to the Dubai coastline. Will occupy an area of 1.4 billion square feet of development on water and on land, twice the size of Hong Kong. Housing estimated 1.5 million people.
Located near the International Airport Dubai World Central, and with direct access to Sheikh Zayed Road, Jebel Ali Free Zone and Abu Dhabi, the city will be fully accessible locally and internationally.
This development hub is situated along the coast, stretching inland to offer a variety of residential, commercial districts and industrial areas, with a number of major tourist attractions and other needs. Extends from the edge of the Persian Gulf coast is a string of connected islands featuring villas and high-end accommodation.
This project covers 10 key areas including Madinat Al Arab, which is expected to become the new downtown and central business district of Dubai. Madinat Al Arab has been built by a consortium of architects, planners and urban developers. Madinat Al Arab will feature resorts, retail, commercial, parks, a mixture of residential and transit systems including light rail and highway.
Civil works and infrastructure has commenced on the first phase of Madinat Al Arab. Palm Cove Canal construction of 8.0 kilometer, which runs parallel to the coastline, began in February 2007 and 65% completed.
The first phase of Madinat Al Arab (30%) is set to private property and investment institutions from the United Arab Emirates and the Cooperation Council for the Gulf States in July 2005. Within five days, it sold out, over 13 billion AED.
