The Dubai Creek

    Dubai Creek or Khor Dubai (Arabic: خور دبي, Khor Dubay) is a salt water creek located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE). Some sources say that this river extends to the mainland to Al Ain, and that the ancient Greeks called Zara River. Historically, this river divides the city into two main parts & ndashl Deira and Bur Dubai. Along the edge of Bur Dubai members of the Bani Yas tribe first settled in the 19th century, founded the Al Maktoum dynasty of the city. In the early 20th century, this river, although not able to transport large navigable, but it can serve as a small port for Dhow who came from India or East Africa.     Initial flow of the river to the mainland Dubai is along the Deira Corniche and the Al-Ras in the east of Dubai and throughout the western Al Shindagha in Dubai. It continues to the southeast into the land, through the Port Saeed and Dubai Creek Park. End of the natural flow of the river is at Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary, 14 Kilometer (8.7 mi) from its origin in the Persian Gulf. Traditional form of transport between eastern and western parts of Dubai through this river is by abra, which continued to operate in Dubai. In addition, the east and west linked by a bridge (Al Maktoum Bridge, Al Garhoud Bridge, Business Bay Crossing and Floating Bridge) and one tunnel (Tunnel Al Shindagha).
