Maya civilization has much in common with other Mesoamerican civilizations due to the high interaction and cultural diffusion that occurs in the region. Cultural products such as writing, epigraphy, and the calendar does not necessarily generated Maya; but their culture was high. Maya influence can be found as far as central Mexico, more than 1000 kilometers from the center of Maya country. Outside the Mayan civilization also affect the Maya civilization, which is found in traditional Mayan art and architecture. This influence comes from the results of cultural exchange and trade without any external subjugation.
Mayans did not become extinct, both from the time after the end of Classical period or with the arrival of the Spanish explorers and conquistadores of Spanish colonization, respectively. Today, the Maya and their descendants still form a population that maintain traditions and beliefs, with the result of acculturation and the Roman Catholic ideology which was adapted from pre-Columbian and post-occupation period. Maya language remains the main language of their current. One form of their culture, Rabinal Achi, a traditional drama, included in the list of Masterpieces of Oral Heritage and Human Nonbendawi by UNESCO in 2005.
